Seal of Commitment

Document Actions
Awarded to food service establishments that have committed to the highest degree of food safety training available

The Seal of Commitment was created in 1997 by the Maryland Council on Food Safety (MCFS) as a first-in-the-nation initiative which offers cost-effective, time efficient food safety training options and a credible, effective way to communicate an establishment's investment in food safety to its customers, the media and sanitarians.

The MCFS's Seal of Commitment program has been so successful that other states are using it as a model for their own food safety training initiatives. Now customers across the nation can "dine without reservations."

How to Earn the Seal of Commitment

  • Confirm that at least one manager per location has been ServSafe certified within the past three years
  • Conduct a Smart Staff seminar for 75% of full time employees and 50% of part time employees

Benefits of Earning the Seal of Commitment:

  • Increased employee morale and retention
  • Recognition by state and local health departments
  • Special designation in RAM gift certificate program
  • Use of the Seal in approved ads, menus and proposals

Cost

Organizations that have earned the Seal of Commitment agree that the training costs pay for themselves. Managers must first be certified in ServSafe. See your recertification options and costs.
