Overtime- It can cost more than money
Overtime does more than just cost you extra money each month.
Some telltale signs of over-worked and disgruntled crew members include increases in tardiness, stress and even on-the-job accidents.
Turnover is also a common result because many employees don't feel that extra cash in their pocket is worth the time lost from their personal lives. Take these simple steps to manage overtime effectively:
- Honestly discuss overtime and scheduling during the interview process. Don't surprise employees with more hours than they planned to work.
-Ask for staff input before handing out the extra hours necessary to fill the schedules.
Don't rely solely on volunteers. This can result in poor performance and morale due to lack of rest and recreation.
-Reward employees who consistently pick up the slack. Without them, simply getting open every day could prove to be impossible.
